Study on the Relationship between Plasma Dopamine-¥â-Hydroxylase Activity and Psychopathology in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disoredr

Abstract
Plasma dopamine-¥â-hydroxylase activity(DBH) was measured in 37 attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD), 41 atypical attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (atypical ADHD), and 27 controls to elucidate the biochemical etiology in
attention
deficit hyperactivity disorders.
@ES The results are summarized as follows:
@EN 1) In the attention deficit hyperactivity group, the mean plasma DBH activity was significantly elevated compared to the atypical and control group. But, the mean plasma DBH activity of the atypical group was not significantly elevated
compared
to
the control group.
2) In the ADHD and atypical ADHD group, the plasma DBH activity showed a tendency to be decreased with age, but in the control group, showed a tendency to be increased with age.
3) No significant correlation was found between +he DBH activity and the severity and the severity of psychopathology.
These findings support the hypothesis of a possible involvement of brain catecholamine dysfunction in the production of attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, and this dysfunction might be due to the decreased dopaminergic and increased
noradrenergic function.
